Checkboxes can be inserted in to documents or templates in 3 easy steps.
1. Put your cursor in the location that you want the checkbox to be inserted
2. Navigate to "Insert" in the toolbar and select the checkbox icon
3. The checkbox has been inserted and is ready to be used
To check or uncheck, simply click on the checkbox. Changes to the checked status are tracked in version history and tracked changes (if enabled).
You can insert checkboxes in to restricted documents or templates as well. Ensure that you mark the area surrounding the checkbox as editable when inserted it in to a restricted template (otherwise it will not be able to be toggled when used in a document).
